Getaway.

[San Francisco, Tahoe]

I'm so excited to get away this weekend. I'm flying into Sacramento, where Elizabeth lives, but we are going to take a small road trip from there. The choices are San Francisco or Tahoe. Or maybe both. They are each about two hours away, in opposite directions. Eliz is in charge of the plans, I'm just along for the ride and up for anything. I've never been to either place, so I'm looking forward to a new experience no matter what. Can't wait for a nice change of scenery and fun times with an old friend.

I'll be back late Sunday. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Heading West.

Thursday I am flying to Sacramento to spend the weekend with my crazy, hilarious, awesome best friend from high school. It's been a year and a half since I saw her. Way. Too. Long.

I'm very excited [and a tiny bit scared about what's in store] for the weekend. Where Elizabeth goes, ridiculous adventures tend to follow.

Now to get caught up with work before I leave...

This Weird Weathered Week...

Ella and I made brownies and practiced writing her name while we waited for the gray skies to clear.Kosmo did a dance until we gave him treats, and then he took a doggy nap.
And once the rain had passed, we went outside for an afternoon of puddles, wagon rides, and a game a soccer. She is a perfect little ball of sweetness and sass. Love this girl so so much.

The Fourth.

We had lots of fun in Kansas this past weekend. This is my third year in a row to spend 4th of July with Randy's family. I can't imagine a better place to spend the holiday. It brings back a few foggy memories of spending the 4th in Mustang, Oklahoma, with my pyromaniac cousins setting off awesome fireworks while my scared little siblings cried inside the house. But that was a loooong time ago. Most of my life I spent the Fourth in Houston, hoping for glimpses of fireworks over the tall trees and buildings that crowd the cityscape. Fireworks in the country are so much better. Especially when you set them off yourself! [...which I just found out this year, after sucking it up and overcoming my fear of fire and explosives to actually light a few on my own. Kind of scary, but so much fun! And I'm sure the boys got a kick out of watching me scurry away as quickly as possible after finally lighting the fuse.]

We drove to Kansas Friday. Randy did some fishing with his new giant lure. He was hoping that giant lure = giant fish. Unfortunately those little guys were ambitious! He caught some fish barely bigger than his lure, and a few good sized bass. Meanwhile, his brother Corey and I were busy catching tiny frogs for a photoshoot. They were everywhere! Maybe I'm weird, but I think frogs are really cute. Especially the little gangster frog with his cocked head and apparent attitude. Isn't he funny?

Friday night we had dinner with his family in Emporia, and then went back to Madison to hang out with his brother and best friend. We decided to start celebrating early, so we headed to the fireworks stand where I proceeded to turn into a giddy child who had never purchased fireworks before [well, I hadn't]. We loaded up our buckets with what seemed like a ton, but only came to $20 worth of fireworks for me. Awesome! Then Corey took us out to his friend's lake where we spent the evening playing with fire and oohing and aahing over Roman Candles. Then I got cold and fell asleep in the truck while they went fishing in the pitch black lake.

Saturday Randy did a little more fishing before we headed back to the lake to face Big Mable. All I have to say is...ouch. But we survived! We spent the evening at Randy's brother's house with the family, watching the kids set off fireworks and eating way too much good food.

Sunday was family picture day. I thought it might be a bit awkward, because I'm not officially in the family, but they insisted that I be in several of the group shots. I love his family so much. They have really accepted me from day one and always make me feel welcome. Luke [the little one with Randy above] was being a stinker and decided to make silly faces or just plain not cooperate. But once he was free to play on the playground, he decided it was time for his solo modeling career. He started demanding that Lacy take his picture from every angle on the slide. What a little character! I can't wait to see how all the photos turned out. I hope they got some good ones of the group. Randy's mom said it's been about four years since they last took family photos. I guess it was about time for an update!

Surprise Party Cupcakes.

I tried Amy Sedaris' vanilla cupcake recipe a couple weeks ago for boyfriend's semi-surprise-half-birthday-party. Well the party didn't happen exactly as I planned, and he managed to spoil his own surprise, but the cupcakes were delish! We did have a few of his best friends in town for a spontaneous weekend visit, and guess what? Those boys actually like sweets! I'm so glad I didn't have to eat twenty five and a half cupcakes all by myself.

No, I did not decorate his with pink frosting, but these are much prettier than mine.

Adelson for Mayor.

Last year, my first real job after graduation was working with Tom Adelson as the graphic designer on his campaign for state senator. This year he has decided to run for mayor of Tulsa! I am really excited to be working with his team on another campaign.

He officially announced his candidacy at a local park last week. I designed his new logo and the big sign in the picture. We are working on launching his new website soon. It's fun to see it all come together. I'll keep you updated on the campaign!

And We're Off.

Randy and I are heading to Kansas this morning to spend 4th of July with his family. That means lots of home cooking and fireworks on the farm. He seems to think I will be lighting some myself this year. We'll see...

Hope you all have a fun and safe weekend and enjoy plenty of family, friends, food, and fireworks yourselves.

Happy 4th of July!

Dive In.

Just looking at these cool pool shots by Tom Fowlks feels refreshing on this steamy Oklahoma summer day. Makes me want to befriend my neighbors just to take a dip in their backyard.

Lovestamp Owl Comes to Life.

My client Jo of Lovestamp had the adorable idea to have a plush made of her little owl logo. She wanted to make her display look extra special at craft fairs. I think this is just perfect! The plush owls were custom made by Little Diva. Aren't they sweet? Now I want one for myself.
