After an early Saturday morning phone call from our landlord to say that her son would be showing up on very short notice to paint our house that same day, boyfriend and I were reminded just how much we dislike renting. We can't wait to have a place of our own, free from unexpected visitors/landlords/painters ringing the doorbell and disturbing our weekend slumber. The second he got off the phone with the landlord, Randy hopped on Craigslist and started searching the real estate section.

Our lease is officially up mid-summer, which seems far enough away right now, but I know it will sneak up on us and suddenly we'll have lots of important decisions to make in very little time. Which I guess is why we're starting the search now. [Technically this has been an ongoing search for a while now, but the closer we get to the end of the lease, the more real it feels.]

We've lived in this rental house for almost two years. Our landlord would love to sell it to us, but the price isn't right. The location is perfect for us, and the house is spacious, but it definitely needs work. The carpet throughout the house is horrendous. The walls and ceilings have some cracks that may be signs of foundation problems. The layout is kind of strange. It's great for now, but far from our dream house. Although "our" dream house may be two different houses entirely. We can work that out later.

We do agree that we'd like a fixer-upper with good bones. It must have potential, but it doesn't have to be pretty. Yet. We like living outside of town, close to Randy's work, but with a country feel. A few acres of land and distant neighbors. Quiet and somewhat secluded. It's what he grew up in and what I've grown to love too.

We found this cute house online and drove by it Saturday afternoon to check out the location. It's further outside of Tulsa than our house now. The property is big, though still surrounded by several other houses in close proximity. It probably won't be our first house, but it's still fun to imagine. We talked about the changes we'd make as we drove by. We'd fence the yard and expand the garage. And that red paint on the adorable front porch must go. If we agree on nothing else, our loathing of this shade of red could keep us together.

Which got us talking about colors. I asked what colors he was thinking might look nice instead.

Dark green and tan.

Uh oh. We might have a problem here.

Dark hunter forest green may be my least favorite color. Next to that shade of red currently on the porch. And tan. Of course there are some exceptions. [This plaid couch is not one of them. This couch is possibly the reason I don't want these colors anywhere near my future house. I am secretly encouraging Riley to keep chewing up every bit of it when no one's looking. Don't tell.]

However, I was imagining something more along the lines of these colors on the exterior...

Photobucket
Yes, I know I am addicted to white. I can't help it. White makes everything feel so bright and fresh. So unlike dark forest green.

I suppose none of this porch color talk really matters until we actually have a porch. Hopefully, one that's attached to a house we can call our own. Until then, I'll keep you updated with any further house-hunting adventures, color feuds, and Riley's ugly-college-couch-eating progress.

Happy Monday!

I'm totally crushing on the cool decor in The Vintage Cabin. So many unique thrift store finds and eclectic accessories make this house one of a kind. I love it!

I must have this Oklahoma animal print by Jen Oaks. I've encountered a few of these guys first-hand while living in this great state [hello, opossum in my trash can and deer in my headlights].

"It is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all."

I really really love this photo by Natalie Kucken.

I love her stop motion even more.

Such a simple concept, but so beautifully done, no?

Today I'm dreaming about this stunning cabin overlooking the Cascade Mountains, with its vaulted ceilings, exposed wood beams, massive windows for all the natural light I could ever hope for, and a perfect front porch to enjoy warm summer evenings. I think I'm in love.

We had a last minute change of plans due to the weather forecast and ended up leaving Riley at home with our roommate over the weekend. As it turned out, the weekend was a bit more chaotic than expected, so it was a good decision not to bring the pup this time. He'll have to wait just a little longer to play with the cows and swim in the pond. The farm is much more fun in the summer anyway.

With so much going on, I almost forgot to take pictures. But I did manage to get a grin out of this cutie while we waited in the truck for the older boys to check on some cows. Luke informed me that he has a real smile and a fake smile, but he wasn't too sure which one this was.

We're headed to Kansas this afternoon for a wedding this weekend and some family birthday celebrations. This will be Riley's first trip to the farm. Let's hope he gets along nicely with the cows.

Happy weekend!

We took a family walk down our street Tuesday evening. Randy jogged ahead with Riley and I took a slower pace to get some photos. The weather was perfect and the sky looked amazing. I love love love thick purple clouds and glowing sunlight.

My baby's getting huge. His floppy ears make me smile so much. One ear is bigger than the other right now. We tell him it makes him special.

I ordered this amazing tent print from gretchenmist the other day and found out the shop is having a BOGO sale. Such a nice surprise! Choosing my free second print was tough with so many others that I loved too. The colors in all of these are to die for.

I finally decided on this one. Both are making me dream of warm summer weekends and camping under the stars.

[My wall is going to be so happy when I get all my new artwork up!]

I've been on the lookout for 5x7 artwork to fill a frame I bought on sale in December. Mission accomplished. These three lovely pieces will soon find a new home on my wall.

There are so many things I love about them, both individually and as a set. I found all three on Etsy from some of my favorite artists. All were super affordable [I paid about $45 total!], including an original drawing by Michele Maule.

Each one shows the artist's unique style and clearly different media and technique, while the bird theme and repetition of colors ties them all together as a set.

1. House Sparrow by Anna See $5
2. Original Drawing by Michele Maule $28
3. Lace Trees by Alli Coate $10

I don't know why, but pictures of bikes indoors really intrigue me. I catch myself stopping to stare at every image like this I've come across lately.

Maybe it's a sign that I take my two-plus-acres-complete-with-garage-and-shed for granted. I would never have a reason [excuse?] to store my bicycle in my bedroom, no matter how fun it looks in these spaces.

Maybe I just like seeing a bicycle as an interesting accessory in the living room decor.

Or maybe it's the reminder that spring is near and the weather is finally close to perfect for a bike ride.

[Guys, I don't even own a bike. I'm not sure I remember how to ride one, it's been so long. But now I kind of want one...I just don't know if I should put it in the kitchen or the office?]

These pictures are inspiring me to decorate in shades of aqua and start a collection of cool vintage globes. I especially love the globes in the kitchen. They seem so unexpected in there, but they are really lovely.
